As enterprises migrate more workloads to the cloud, the quality of connectivity between cloud platforms and on-premises networks becomes critical. By default, enterprises access cloud platforms via the public internet — data traverses multiple ISP networks, passes through multiple internet exchange points, with uncontrollable paths, unstable latency, and security that cannot be fully guaranteed.

Cloud platform dedicated access (branded differently by each platform — Tencent Cloud's "Direct Connect," AWS "Direct Connect," Huawei Cloud's "Cloud Connect") establishes a physically dedicated connection between enterprise networks and cloud platforms, bypassing the public internet to fundamentally solve these issues. Core advantages include:

Deterministic latency and bandwidth: Dedicated lines provide stable, predictable network performance unaffected by internet congestion. Higher security: Data avoids the public internet, significantly reducing man-in-the-middle attacks and eavesdropping risks. Lower data transfer costs: Most cloud platforms charge less for data transferred over dedicated lines than over the public internet — for large-scale data transfer scenarios, the cost advantage is substantial. Hybrid cloud support: Dedicated access unifies on-premises data centers and cloud VPCs into a single network plane, facilitating hybrid cloud application deployment.

Tencent Cloud Direct Connect

Tencent Cloud's Direct Connect service enables enterprises to connect to Tencent Cloud VPCs via physical dedicated lines. Tencent Cloud has Points of Presence (PoPs) in multiple cities worldwide, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Frankfurt. Enterprises can choose self-built physical connections (for large enterprises with high bandwidth needs) or shared connections through partners (for small-to-medium enterprises).

Tencent Cloud Direct Connect supports both BGP and static routing modes. BGP mode suits complex environments with multiple VPCs or dynamic routing needs; static routing mode is simpler to configure, ideal for single-VPC scenarios. Bandwidth options range from 50Mbps to 10Gbps, with monthly billing or annual bandwidth package billing.

AWS Direct Connect

AWS Direct Connect is AWS's dedicated connectivity service, allowing enterprises to establish private network connections between their own networks and AWS. AWS offers two connection types: Dedicated Connections (1Gbps, 10Gbps, or 100Gbps dedicated ports) and Hosted Connections (50Mbps to 10Gbps connections provided through partners).

For enterprises operating in mainland China, note that AWS CN (China regions operated by Sinnet and NWCD) and AWS Global are two independent systems. If enterprises need to connect to both AWS CN and AWS Global, two separate dedicated lines are typically required. In Hong Kong, enterprises can directly access the AWS Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Region with lower latency and simpler compliance processes.

Huawei Cloud Cloud Connect

Huawei Cloud's Direct Connect (DC) service provides dedicated network channels from enterprise on-premises data centers to Huawei Cloud VPCs. Huawei Cloud holds significant market share in mainland China, particularly favored by government and state-owned enterprise clients. Huawei Cloud's access points are primarily distributed across major mainland China cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, etc.) and Asia-Pacific nodes including Hong Kong, Singapore, and Bangkok.

Huawei Cloud Direct Connect's distinguishing feature is deep integration with Huawei's enterprise networking equipment (AR series routers, CloudEngine switches) and strong support for domestic technology requirements. For enterprises already using Huawei networking equipment, Direct Connect integration is particularly seamless.

How Areapac Simplifies Cloud Dedicated Access

Self-managing cloud dedicated access is complex engineering — enterprises must apply for ports from cloud platforms, coordinate cross-connects with data centers, configure BGP sessions, debug VLAN tags and MTU settings... the entire process can take weeks or even months.

Areapac has established pre-built dedicated access channels with Tencent Cloud, AWS CN / AWS Global, and Huawei Cloud. Enterprise clients don't need to handle tedious physical connections and routing configuration themselves — simply submit requirements to Areapac and dedicated connectivity to target cloud platforms can be provisioned within 24 hours. Areapac's engineering team handles end-to-end configuration, monitoring, and incident management, letting enterprises focus on their cloud workloads rather than underlying networking.

Whether you use a single cloud platform or multi-cloud architecture, Areapac provides unified dedicated access solutions — one provider solving all your cloud connectivity needs.
